Human Cancer Biology Defective Epidermal Innate Immunity and Resultant Superficial Dermatophytosis in Adult T-cell Leukemia/ Lymphoma

چکیده
Purpose: Superficial dermatophytosis is quite commonly seen in patients with adult T-cell leukemia/ lymphoma (ATLL), as approximately 50% of the patients develop cutaneous mycotic infections. Because superficially infected fungi in the stratum corneum of the epidermis cannot directly contact with T cells infiltrating in the upper dermis, some perturbation of epidermal innate immunity has been postulated. Interleukin (IL)-17–producing helper T cells (Th17) can induce the keratinocyte production of antimicrobial peptides such as human b defensin (HBD)-2 and LL-37, which play an essential role in cutaneous

متن کاملHuman T Lymphotropic Virus Type I (HTLV-I) Oncogenesis: Molecular Aspects of Virus and Host Interactions in Pathogenesis of Adult T cell Leukemia/Lymphoma (ATL)
The study of tumor viruses paves the way for understanding the mechanisms of virus pathogenesis, including those involved in establishing infection and dissemination in the host tumor affecting immune-compromised patients. The processes ranging from viral infection to progressing malignancy are slow and usually insufficient for establishment of transformed cells that develop cancer in only ...

Since thee beginning of the present century retroviruses have been reported as causative factors that produced transmissible tumors in birds. However, in 1980 Poiesz et al, established, for the first time, a link between a retrovirus and leukemia called Human Lymphotropic Virus Type 1 (HTLV1). Over the course of past 27 years the epidemiology of human T lymphotropic Virus type l has matured. ...
متن کاملSpecific cutaneous manifestations in adult T cell leukemia/lymphoma
Background and aim: Adult T cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) is an aggresive malignancy which may occur in human T lymphotropic virus1(HTLV1) infected persons. HTLV1 is endemic in Khorasan with prevalence of 2.3% in general population. Since specific cutaneous manifestations of lymphoma may occur in a significant number of patients, we studied ATLL patients in Mashhad.Mate...
متن کاملHTLV-1 and Innate Immunity
Innate immunity plays a critical role in the host response to a viral infection. The innate response has two main functions. First, it triggers effector mechanisms that restrict the infection. Second, it primes development of the adaptive response, which completes the elimination of the pathogen or of infected cells. In vivo, HTLV-1 infects T lymphocytes that participate in adaptive immunity bu...
